On my ride in to work today I saw about 6 other motorcycles which is several more than usual. Mostly large cruisers and a few sportbikes, but not a single one of them was wearing a helmet! I just don’t get it...
I like my face so that chin bar is probably a good idea...
I always encourage motorcyclists to wear gear and I always at least wear boots, gloves, jacket, a full face helmet and frequently riding jeans/pants. I’m not an ATGATT Nazi, but come on, at least wear a helmet!!!

Even if you aren’t trying to drag a knee it’s important to acknowledge as a motorcyclist that you effectively have brought a knife to a Mexican stand off. I maintain that many of the risks associated with riding can be effectively mitigated through proper training, good gear, proactive riding, and strong situational awareness. However, even with all that, there still is a significant risk of serious injury and death. For me the risks are 100% worth it for the joy that is riding, but why not try to stack the deck in your favor as much as possible?
I’m probably preaching to the choir here so take this more as a rant/vent, but lets continue to positively encourage our 2 wheeled brethren to wear good gear.
Keep the shiny side up...but get frame sliders just in case

Target fixiation probably falls under the “proper training,” I suppose.

It is amazing how few people wear a helmet/proper helmet in PA. I rarely see another rider with a helmet on. Almost never on Harley’s.

well I usually am not on the lookout for giant rouge twinkies, but I’ll have to keep an eye out for them now!

I live in TX, and seeing a rider in shorts, a wife beater and flip flops is a common sight. We recently had a rider die in my neighborhood from an accident that probably shouldn’t have been fatal. My mom used to be an EMT in rural Illinois. She said picking up a rider after a helmetless crash is like “picking up a sack of marbles.” Yeah, I don't get it either.

When I saw that this morning, I was sitting upright, clenched, and breathless in my office chair before that thing hit the ground.
I think I may have even pushed away from my desk a little bit while my brain was screaming “BRAKE BRAKE BRAKE OMG BRAKE”
...then about a second later, his brake light went on.

i had the same reaction, that bike definitely can stop on a dime, but I guess he was hungry and couldn’t look away from the jumbo twinkie

It was the same situation when I was visiting Florida. It was hot as hell so I get it sucks to wear jeans and a jacket, but come on at least get a brain bucket

My brilliant neighbor has a squid-in-training. Someone thought it would be a great idea to buy him a small dirt bike and cut him loose on the 5 acres behind my house. His only concession to safety gear is a pair of gloves. His cockeyed flat-brimmed hat, shorts, and muscle shirt aren’t going to help him when he goes down which I expect to happen soon. He’s discovered the only pile of dirt on the property and has started pulling wheelies over the top. It’s just a matter of time before he starts jumping it. Not long after that will come his first big crash.

I was in Michigan today, and my GPS decided that 8 mile from Livonia to Groesbeck was the best way to get home. If you look on a map, you will see that you get to see a lot more of the Detroit area, than you would from the interstate ( my usual method of traversement ). The number of helmetless heads (mostly older and bald) was baffling for a good, humble, apologetic Canadian, such as myself! I can’t even. My brain shut down as I could not comprehend the logic used....

Just saw this... I can’t decide if a skid lid is worth it or not. Would I want to survive with most of my face gone?
Full-Face or Modular are my options (It can get really hard to get glasses on with a Full-Face, so I will make concessions to un-godly inconveniences.)
